Swingable, a private, referral-only lifestyle community, has set out the philosophy guiding its development: “Private by Nature. Consent by Design.” The approach centres on a simple principle: people should have real control over their identity, content and participation.
For Swingable, privacy and consent are product decisions as well as community responsibilities. They shape who controls an account, how people participate together and whose approval is required before content can be shared. The aim is to make respect for individual choice part of the everyday experience of using the platform.
That principle is reflected in its account model. New members join through independently controlled Personal Accounts, each with their own login. Two people can connect their accounts through a jointly managed Shared Profile, allowing them to participate together while retaining their individual accounts. Being part of a couple should leave each person with their own voice and control over their involvement.
The same thinking informs Swingable’s approach to media. Under its Vault process, everyone appearing in an uploaded photo or video must be tagged through their own Personal Account. Each person must approve before the content progresses to admin review for sharing on the platform. Permission to share an image should come from the people in it.
These decisions reflect a wider view of participation. Members should be able to explore the community at their own pace, with their boundaries respected. A shared profile or an approved image does not imply agreement to any further activity; consent remains specific, freely given and ongoing.
Swingable sees this philosophy as an ongoing responsibility. As the platform evolves, privacy and consent will remain part of how it assesses new features and reviews existing ones, alongside moderation and community standards.
